COURSE OBJECTIVE

The Augmented Course in International Finance is designed to provide students a solid understanding of the financial markets and how do they interact within the internal and external environment.  Governments, investors and corporates are involved to ensure the effective operation of the financial markets. In this frame, the objective of the course is to present the main players of the financial market, its different markets and its financial instruments.

Moreover, International Finance course fulfils the main requirements of Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment’s International Introduction to Securities & Investment examination. (Level 3 certification) :

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:

  • Describe how do the financial markets work and who are their main players
  • Evaluate and critically analyze the relationship between the financial markets and the economic systems.
  • Have a good acknowledge of the different financial instruments: stocks, bonds, derivatives.
  • Describe how do the regulation and ethics interact in order to best protect the investors and also the different players of the markets.
LEARNING STRATEGY

The course is designed so that it addresses different student learning needs, therefore a variety of methodologies are used which require the students to think critically, speak up and articulate their positions both verbally and in writing. Learning techniques include formal lecture-style topic delivery, case studies, videos and class activities. Example methods and exercises from both the academic and practitioner worlds will be used to emphasize delivery and application. Practical exercises are intended to build the student’s proficiency in by delivering knowledge and skills through practical application of international finance in ‘real world’ problems.

Several Quizzes and take-home assignments will be taken throughout the program.

Quizzes: There are nine online quizzes during the session. Upon each chapter students are requested to take the quiz and achieve at least 70% in order to be able to take the next one. If the student fails to achieve the 70%, he/she will be allowed to take it  again until he/she succeeds.

 

Case studies will be assessed according to the following criteria:

  • Clarity of arguments and logical analysis-
  • Content – Style, Calculation Accuracy
  • Structure
  • Presentation of the document

 

Final examination:

50 Multiple-choice-question exam that will be held at the end of course. It combines theory and practice and covers all the topics seen during the program
