“Defining what the Metagile Manager ® will be”
Chair Professor: Jacques GAGNON, School of Management, University of Sherbrooke, Quebec.
“According to reports by the Californian Think-Tank “Institute for the Future”/Dell and the World Economic Forum (October 21, 2020), 85% of the jobs of 2030 do not exist and 50% of all employees will, due to the growing adoption of technologies, have to retrain by 2025. These two publications reinforce the idea that, more than ever, companies need to consider the profound changes they will have to face to ensure their profitability.
In organizations, managers are the major levers of change that must be used to meet these strategic challenges. However, it is clear that in recent years, economic, societal and even behavioral changes have accelerated and have significantly weakened the managerial strata that are struggling to position themselves in these new environments. Indeed, these changes require managers to develop new and enhanced skills to become “Metagile Managers” ®. Critical thinking, problem solving, self-management, active learning, resilience, stress tolerance and flexibility are at the top of the list of competencies that employers expect to become increasingly important over the next five years. In this perspective, the education sector will play a major role, but to do so, it must change, what it’s now consideredoutdated teaching methods and rethink its cognitive approaches, which often have become obsolete.
Based on this observation, the “mutations and agility” research-action chair was created. Its mission is to define the “Metagile Manager ®” and provide him with the agilities to face changes that are looming.
To this end, the Chair must pursue three objectives :
- Research
- Teaching
- Reach out
