Do you know the Bono hat method?
In the 1960s, Edward de Bono developed the concept of lateral thinking, followed by a method for generating new ideas: that of the six hats.
For De Bono, if we try to solve a problem by following “vertical” thinking (“normal” reasoning), we are forced into realistic and sensible propositions.
Lateral thinking is all about stimulating creativity by gaining height. This helps bring out innovative ideas and different perspectives. This all will take you out of its classic thought patterns.
Using the six hats allows you to sequence the thinking, giving free rein to logic, emotions, fears, etc.
This method can be useful for redefining a problem and looking at it with more perspective, for finding alternatives to the usual way of doing things, for making decisions or even for creating a new product or concept.
Alone or in a group, this method can be used to redefine a problem and to consider it with an unusual, alternative and innovative vision.
“Creativity is about looking at things differently, moving away from traditional thought patterns. “
